Dental Emergencies: Common Problems That Are Not Considered A Dental Emergency

Dental Emergencies: Common Problems That Are Not Considered A Dental EmergencyIf you are experiencing a dental emergency, you should come see us right away. This does not mean, however, that you have to come immediately in the case of every possible dental issue. Some problems are less urgent and can wait until the next day or even for a few days if it is the weekend.

Minor Chips in a Tooth

Of course, if you break or crack a tooth, you need to come see us immediately. However, sometimes you might only chip a tooth. If the chip is small, it is probably not an emergency, and you can just call us to set up an appointment.

Minor Tooth Sensitivity

If your teeth are sensitive to cold or hot foods or drinks, it can indicate an issue. However, in most cases, this does not indicate an emergency. This is especially true if the sensitivity has slowly developed. In such a case, you do need to set up an appointment to see us as soon as you can. However, it is likely not an emergency, so unless you have reason to believe you have something such as a dental abscess, there is no need to rush the matter.

Mild Aches in a Tooth

A toothache is a sign that you need to have the tooth looked at. We can help inspect the tooth and identify the issue that is causing you pain. Having said that, most of the time a toothache is not going to qualify as a dental emergency.

If you have a toothache, and if it has been slowly developing over time, we do want to see you. But it can probably wait until you call us and make an appointment. In the meantime, take a few painkillers and try to limit your use of that tooth.
