Signs Your Teeth Are Not Getting Enough Calcium

Signs Your Teeth Are Not Getting Enough CalciumWhen you think about bone health it is just as important to think your teeth as they are made up as the same materials as your bones are and require the same amount of care and attention.

Your teeth are made up of a material that is called crystalline calcium phosphate and it creates this lattice – like pattern that protects the sensitive side of the nerves inside of each tooth in your head.

Calcium and Your Teeth

The NIH says that the calcium in your body is constantly ebbing and flowing, breaking down and being rebuilt – so, naturally, as you use your teeth and bones, there is this natural erosion that occurs. However, your body is smart and makes up for that and quickly replaces that lost calcium. Your body, even stores excess calcium in your bones and teeth to help fortify them against erosion and breakage.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, your body is breaking down calcium faster than it can rebuild it and that is when you start to have calcium deficient teeth and other health issues. Certain risk factors of this are already built-in simply by being female, being of advanced age and not getting enough calcium in your diet. So if you are in one of those categories the deck is already stacked against you.

Signs and Symptoms of Calcium Deficiency in Teeth

There are several signs and symptoms that you are not getting enough calcium and these are but not limited to, frequent broken bones, poor sleep, confusion or memory loss, depression, blood pressure changes, heart failure, difficulty losing weight, numbness, tingling and muscle tremors, muscle cramps, weak and brittle nails, poor teeth and rickets, poor appetite, fainting.

It can be quite frightening to experience one much less more than one of these symptoms. If you have concerns about your teeth, no matter what they may be, remember we are here to help, and we encourage you to call us and talk to us. We are just a phone call away!
